Virtual whakatau welcomes MITO into Te Pūkenga
Te Pūkenga hosted a virtual whakatau on 2 February to formally welcome MITO into its whānau.
This virtual whakatau replaces an in-person pōwhiri due to COVID-19 restrictions. Representatives from Te Pūkenga, MITO and a number of industry stakeholders attended the ceremony.
“Congratulations to Verna Niao, the new Director of the MITO Business Division within Te Pūkenga, and all of the team at today’s whakatau. I also want to acknowledge MITO’s former Chief Executive, Janet Lane, for her significant contribution to this transition and to tertiary education. MITO will continue support for on-the-job learning for thousands of workers and employers in the automotive, commercial road transport, drilling, gas, mining and quarrying, passenger services and ports and stevedoring industries,” said Gillian Dudgeon, Deputy Chief Executive, Delivery, Tertiary Education Commission.
“Transitioning into Te Pūkenga Work Based Learning Limited is part of the work underway to reimagine vocational education to ensure it is truly learner-centred. This is part of the reform of vocational education and training that will bring benefits for learners and employers, and ensure training is relevant and targeted.”
