Tahatū Career Navigator is a new interactive careers website the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) is developing in consultation with the education community, careers practitioners, students and whānau.

Next generation careers planning resource

Tahatū Career Navigator is the next generation of the current careers.govt.nz website, refreshing the best of its content, tools and functions. It will deliver complex careers information in a useful and interactive way to help all New Zealanders make informed career decisions at any stage in their lives.

Tahatū Career Navigator connects NCEA school subjects, qualifications and careers and shows the most common ways others have taken to get to that career or job. It brings this information together for the first time in one place, profiling nearly 100 school subjects, 4,000 qualifications and 800 career ideas.

Tahatū Career Navigator will become a trusted source of careers information across Aotearoa New Zealand and a key resource for those providing careers support and advice.

Tahatū Career Navigator is an important initiative under the National Careers System Strategy and a key objective in the Tertiary Education Strategy for the future of learning and work.

Priority audiences

Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled people and women are priority audience groups for Tahatū Career Navigator as they have traditionally been disadvantaged in the workforce. Tahatū Career Navigator will help to overcome barriers for these groups in accessing quality careers information.

Tahatū Career Navigator pilot

Tahatū Career Navigator is currently being piloted with a group of secondary schools and kura kaupapa Māori across Aotearoa New Zealand, with more schools coming on board in 2025.
