Delivering vocational education

Vocational education and training is provided at the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (formerly Te Pūkenga), wānanga and private training establishments.

New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST)
Four business divisions remain in NZIST (formerly Te Pūkenga) and continue to deliver education and training to learners in their regions.
Wānanga
Wānanga provide quality education using tikanga Māori ways of teaching and learning, contributing to the survival and wellbeing of Māori as a people.
Private training establishments (PTEs)
PTEs deliver programmes and qualifications from foundation level to postgraduate level, depending on their educational subject areas.
Polytechnics
Polytechnics deliver foundation, vocational, and higher education across New Zealand, providing practical and career-focused learning opportunities.
Work-based learning divisions (former business divisions of NZIST)
There are seven work-based learning (WBL) divisions that sit within Industry Skills Boards (ISBs).
