New apprenticeship code of practice introduced
An amended Code of Good Practice for NZ Apprenticeships is now available, applying to all apprentices, their employers and their tertiary education providers.
An amended Code of Good Practice for NZ Apprenticeships is now available, applying to all apprentices, their employers and their tertiary education providers.
The new version of the Code has been approved by the Minister of Education and gazetted. The changes to the Code are minimal and technical in nature and it replaces the previous code issued in 2015.
The code lays out the three principles for apprenticeships – commitment, collaboration and communication. These are unchanged, as are the good practices that apprentices, employers and tertiary providers are expected to follow.
Since the 2015 Code was introduced, there have been significant changes in the tertiary sector, such as the Education and Training Act 2020 and the Reform of Vocational Education. So, in late 2022, TEC consulted on the Code to ensure it was up to date.
