Education Minister Chris Hipkins has appointed two new commissioners to the TEC Board, both for three-year terms.

Nigel Gould, TEC Board Chair, welcomes the news that John Russell and Nancy McConnell will be joining the TEC Board of Commissioners. John and Nancy will take up their terms on 30 June 2019.

John has three decades worth of experience as a secondary principal and has a great deal of knowledge about the transition from school to training and employment. He is passionate about the role of TEC.

Nancy has worked extensively across the construction, infrastructure and property industries, and has led initiatives focused on empowerment through education, particularly improving success for Māori and Pacific people.

“John and Nancy have a wealth of experience in the education sector with a particular passion to improve the outcomes for Māori and Pacific learners. Their contribution will be invaluable as we continue to develop a more innovative and responsive tertiary education system for all learners,” said Tim Fowler, TEC Chief Executive.

The Tertiary Education Commission leads the Government’s relationship with the tertiary education sector (including universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics, wānanga, private training establishments, industry training organisation and other providers of post-secondary education and training) and provides career services from education through to employment.
