We have opened the registrations to volunteers in Auckland, Gisborne and Dunedin regions. Role models can sign up to the upcoming Inspiring the Future events in these regions on the Inspiring the Future website.

Inspiring the Future programme is underpinned by the results in the Drawing the Future report (PDF 14 MB) released earlier this year that shows the narrow career aspirations of primary and intermediate students across New Zealand. The research shows that they often have stereotypical views of the jobs people do based on their gender and social background and that meeting volunteers from the world of work can help to broaden their horizons and raise their aspirations.

The programme brings role models from different industries into schools in a fun and interactive event organised by the school. Role models talk to students about their jobs and the study, training and how they got there. Through a question and answer session, students try to guess what the role models do, followed by the big reveal of their actual job. The event finishes with an interactive session where role models talk about their job, why they do what they do and how they got there.

The programme will be available to schools in Auckland, Gisborne and Dunedin from November and extended to other regions in the new year.
