As cyber security threats constantly evolve, tertiary education organisations (TEOs) should regularly assess their security posture. TEC is offering cyber security maturity assessments to help with this.

Led by independent provider KPMG, these comprehensive assessments include clear recommendations and a roadmap to help your TEO become more cyber secure.

TEC doesn't see your TEO’s assessment; KPMG provides it to you directly.

Assessments for larger TEOs are based on the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework. For smaller TEOs, they are based on controls from New Zealand’s National Cyber Security Centre.

How to request an assessment

We recommend TEOs complete regular cyber assessments – we are offering them every 18 months over these three-month periods:

• September to November 2025
• March to May 2027
• September to November 2028

The process involves providing KPMG with information so they can complete their assessment. It takes only a few hours spread over a short time period.
