Educational performance reports on individual TEOs

We publish information on the performance of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) based on agreed educational performance indicators (EPIs).

Educational performance indicator reports

Our EPI reports are designed to help TEOs manage and monitor their own performance and to deliver on their agreed tertiary education services.

New EPI reports

After consultation with the sector, we developed new methodologies to calculate two of the EPIs. The new reports provide information about the educational performance of individual TEOs.

They include performance information for:

  • first year retention rate (using new methodology)
  • cohort -based qualification completion rate (using new methodology)
  • course completion rate (using existing methodology)
  • progression rate (using existing methodology).

The reports include overall TEO rates as well as rates that use new grouped register levels that provide a more meaningful reflection of a TEO’s performance – levels 1-3, 4-7 (non-degree), 7 degree, and 8-10.

Existing EPI reports

The existing EPI reports provide information about the educational performance of individual TEOs across four EPIs:

  • retention rate
  • EFTS-weighted qualification completion rate
  • course completion rate
  • progression rate.

For all four EPIs, including the qualification completion and retention rates, the reports use the methodologies we have used since 2009. They don’t use the new methodologies explained above.

New methodologies

After consulting with the sector, we have introduced new methodologies for calculating cohort-based qualification completion rates and first-year retention rates. We used these new methodologies to create the new EPI reports mentioned above. The document below describes the new methodologies:
