Budget 2019 has been announced and holds positive news for tertiary education.
As part of this year’s Budget package, tuition and training subsidies have been increased through a 1.8 percent funding boost across a number of funds for 2020. This is the first time many funds have received increases in a number of years, and will support tertiary organisations to maintain the quality of tertiary education and training as costs such as wages and salaries increase.
The rate increases will be reflected in the methodologies for the upcoming indicative funding allocations.
The increase includes the following funds:
- Adult and Community Education (ACE) in Communities
- ACE Emergency Management Pool
- ACE in ITPs and Wānanga
- ACE in Schools
- ACE – Search and Rescue
- Adult Literacy Educator Fund
- Gateway
- Industry Training Fund
- Intensive Literacy and Numeracy (ILN)
- ILN - English for Speakers of Other Languages
- ILN - Refugee English Fund
- Student Achievement Component (SAC) at levels 3 and above
- SAC at levels 1 and 2
- S. 321 grants for School of Dance and School of Drama
- Youth Guarantee
- Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Fund
