The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) today confirmed it has commissioned investigations at Lincoln University’s Telford Division and at Tai Poutini Polytechnic.

Chief Executive Tim Fowler said the TEC has commissioned Deloitte to investigate both organisations after earlier TEC monitoring suggested more comprehensive scrutiny was needed to ensure their programme delivery matched TEC funding conditions.

“In both these cases we upgraded to an investigation after earlier monitoring indicated we needed to take a more thorough look,“ Mr Fowler said.

“There is a message here for all tertiary education organisations. We have a sophisticated and effective monitoring framework. If you are not meeting your obligations, we will find out.”

The investigation at Tai Poutini Polytechnic follows a review which TEC initiated after a scheduled audit in 2015 revealed discrepancies. The Lincoln investigation follows TEC concerns about whether delivery of some programmes by the Telford Division complied with their funding conditions.

No further comment will be made until the investigations are finalised; expected to be later this year. Outcomes and final reports will be published.
