WDC Industry Finder Tool
WDC Industry Finder Tool
Industry finder tool
Using this industry finder tool, you can find out which Workforce Development Council (WDC) your industry has been allocated to. The industries used in this tool are from the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) 2006.
Please read all the information below before you search for your industry.
How to use the tool
You’ll need to enter at least the first three letters of an industry's name. The tool will return a list of industries that contain the letters that you enter.
If your industry doesn't appear, try some different names or reduce the number of letters you've used. The more specific you become, the more likely it is that you may not find what you are looking for.
For example, if you enter "dentistry" you won’t find the "dental services" industry. But if you enter the first three or four letters, the list will contain all industries that contain that combination of letters.
Remember: think about the industry, rather than an occupation.
Why the tool contains industries, not occupations
A WDC provides support to industries, and it is industries that are assigned to a WDC. A WDC does not have coverage for occupations, as these can be across multiple industries (such as Manager).
When using the tool, think about the industry you work in. For example, if you are a nurse, you could work in residential care, medical services, or aged care. “Nursing” itself isn’t an industry.
Exceptions and exclusions
Not all industries are specifically stated in the ANZSIC. For example, the ANZSIC includes plumbing services, but not gasfitting or drainlaying. We have included these under plumbing services. The ANZSIC doesn’t include scaffolding or cranes, so these have been placed under other construction services.
Some industries may not appear in the ANZSIC in the way you would expect. For example, panel beating is not listed; instead this shows as automotive body, paint and interior repair. There is no ICT or information technology, but there is computer system design and related services.
We identified some industries that were missing, but there may still be more.
