The Tertiary Education Commission works closely with other agencies to help deliver a world-leading education system that equips New Zealanders for the 21st century.

In particular, we work with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, who are responsible for monitoring our work as a Crown entity.

Working with other agencies is vital to:

  • support tertiary education organisations (TEOs)

  • achieve better alignment of activities across government

  • expand the use of shared services across education sector agencies

  • increase the outsourcing of non-core Tertiary Education Commission services through all-of-government procurement arrangements.

Agencies we work with

We work closely with these agencies:

  • the Ministry of Education

  • Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment

  • the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)

  • Ministry of Social Development

  • Careers New Zealand

  • Immigration New Zealand

  • the Department of Corrections.

On a daily basis, we also work with a wide range of TEOs, industry training organisations and employers.

The Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education:

  • advises on the Government’s budget
  • leads the development of the Government’s Tertiary Education Strategy 2014–2019
